Custom Scale - Analysis Based on Customized Scales and Weights | Reverse Scoring

How are the Mean and other statistical measures calculated?

By default, for any question, the first option (answer) is given a score of 1, the second option a score of 2 and so on and so forth. So, if you have a mean of 3.5 in a 5 item scale, it basically tells you that the mean lies between the third and the fourth option.

In my case, the first option does not necessarily represent 1 -- in fact the scores for my scales are reversed. How do I analyze the data?

In such cases, you can use the "Customize Scale Weight" option :

  • Login »  Surveys »  Reports »  Advanced Analysis »  Configure Analytics »  Configure Reporting (Choose Question)

With this option, you can reverse the scale (or add customized weights) to each of the options.
Customized Scale Weights need to be set up for each question individually.

Where do I see the customized mean?

The customized mean is immediately displayed just below the regular mean calculation.

You can also see the Customized Mean in the Real Time Summary Report.
